Accommodations and Travel

Location

The Conference will be held in Washington, DC, one of the most notable cities in the United States. Washington is easily accessible by air (Washington Reagan National Airport, Dulles International Airport and Baltimore-Washington International Airport), train and major interstate highways. All sessions of the Conference will be held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, located next to a METRO city train station (Woodley Park Zoo/Adams Morgan) that is clean, safe and economical, and which can be taken directly to Washington's best-known historical sites and museums. Also, the hotel is within an easy walk of a variety of American and ethnic restaurants, and the National Zoo.

Hotel Reservations

To reserve a hotel room, please complete the housing application and reservation form exactly as instructed. Note that reservations will be accepted only when accompanied by a credit card guarantee or a deposit of the first night's room and tax.

Reservations may be made at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel by telephone, fax or by mailing the enclosed form to the address on the form. Deadline for receipt: Friday, February 20, 2004. When contacting the hotel, identify yourself as an attendee of the 45th Annual Drosophila Research Conference. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.

Please note that neither the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel nor the GSA staff will assist in locating or assigning roommates. However, individuals looking for roommates may check the online bulletin board at the Drosophila Conference Web site, which opens on or around November 1, 2003.

The Marriott Wardman Park Hotel will process housing reservation forms on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations should be made by faxing the enclosed form to (202) 387-5397; or by calling the reservations department at (202) 328-2983; or by mailing the form on page 7 to the address on the form. For general information about the hotel or to contact a hotel guest, call (202) 328-2000. Again, the deadline for RECEIPT of hotel reservation forms is Friday, February 20. See instructions on the enclosed form.

All rates are per room, per night and do not include local room tax of 14.5%. Maximum occupancy per room is four people. King-bedded rooms are limited; when they are sold out, rooms with 2 beds may be substituted. Single person rollaway beds may be requested for triple and quad rooms, but availability is limited and an additional charge will apply.* ***Rate includes daily access to Concierge Lounge on the 10th Floor where complimentary breakfast, soft beverages and late afternoon hors d'oeuvres are served and an honor bar is located.

IMPORTANT Room Reservation Cancellation Policy: to receive a credit or refund of the required first night's room and tax deposit, cancellation must be made at least SEVEN (7) DAYS PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED ARRIVAL DATE. (Check-in time is 3:00 pm, so the cancellation must be made by 3:00 pm SEVEN DAYS before the reserved arrival date).

Though the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel is handicapped accessible, if you have special requirements, it is the responsibility of the hotel guest to note them on the enclosed housing application and reservation form. Every effort will be made to accommodate special needs.

Ground Transportation

Rapid transit trains are available from Washington Reagan National Airport to the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, which is located immediately adjacent to the Metro Woodley Park Zoo/Adams Morgan station. Shuttle van service and taxis are available at all three airports.

Self parking is available at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel at $19 per day, and valet parking at $21 per day (allowing unlimited in/out privileges).
